British Open Golf 2007

The Open Championship

19th - 22nd July 2007

The first British Open Golf Championship was played on the 17th October 1860 over the links at Prestwick. The first competition was open to professionals only and entry was strictly by invitation.

A total of eight competitors participated in the British Open Golf Championship, which was played over 36 holes in a single day. Each of the three rounds was competed for over the 12-hole course at Prestwick. Willie Park Senior took the title to become the first Open Champion. He scored 174, beating the favorite, Tom Morris Senior, by two strokes.

In 2006 the British Open Golf Championship was held at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake and Tiger Woods became the British Open Champion for the third time with a magnificent display of accurate golf accross all four days of the competition.

Tiger dominated play throughout the four days of the British Open, with consistant long hitting than ensured he kept his ball on the fairway. .

The 136th British Open Golf Championship will be held at Carnoustie Golf Club in Dundee. The Carnoustie Championship course is now in the finest condition it has ever been. Not only does it offer the ultimate challenge to every golfer but it provides a playing quality second to none. The Barry Burn eases it's way through the final 3 holes, quietly awaiting the shot that is slightly less than perfect. It was there in 1999 that Frenchman Jean Van de Velde lost the chance of being Open Champion and a place in history.

The 136th British Open Championship will be held at Carnoustie from Thursday 19th to Sunday the 22nd of July 2006.
